Co-Founder - Martin Pope

Before teaming up with Michael 2003, Martin ran his independent company for ten years, producing award winning films including Touch of Pink, The Heart of Me (starring Paul Bettany, Helena Bonham Carter and Olivia Williams), Lawless Heart (starring Bill Nighy), The Cottage (starring Andy Serkis and Reece Shearsmith) and The Turn of the Screw (starring Colin Firth and Jodhi May). Previously his producing credits at BBC Films include John Madden’s Meat and John Schlesinger’s BAFTA award winning film of Alan Bennett’s A Question of Attribution.

Co-Founder - Michael Rose

Before teaming up with Martin in 2003, Michael Rose headed up the feature film division of UK animation studio Aardman. He was executive producer of hit feature films Chicken Run and the Oscar winning Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit. He produced Nick Park’s Oscar winning Wallace & Gromit short, A Close Shave, and two other Oscar nominated shorts and has won two BAFTAS. Previously, Michael was a programme buyer for Channel Four Television, and started his career programming cinemas in Plymouth and Bristol.

Brand Director - Daryl Shute

Daryl joined Magic Light in 2006 and heads up brand management, marketing and the Gruffalo merchandising programme, as well as being an associate producer on Magic Light productions. He began his career as an actor. Graduating from The Welsh College of Music and Drama he worked across film, theatre and television, both in the UK and Australia. Deciding to shift focus behind the camera he worked in both development and production, including a period at the UK Film Council’s Development Fund.

Company Manager - Barney Goodland

Barney manages the company’s day to day activities as well as overseeing aspects of production and project delivery. Graduating from Lincoln University in 2005 with a BA Hons in Media Production, Barney first joined the filmmaking community in Nottingham. Working on a number of projects as part of EM Media’s successful DV Shorts programme he subsequently moved into feature film production and joined Magic Light in 2008 on the film Wild Target.

Head of Sales and Distribution - Muriel Thomas

With over 15 years of experience in children’s programming, Muriel is responsible for all Magic Light’s in house international sales and distribution. For more than 7 years, she was Head of International Sales and Coproduction at Entertainment One, working extensively on the globally successful Peppa Pig franchise. Before that, she headed up the London office of Sullivan Entertainment, and started as a sales executive at Eva Entertainment, Codename Cartoon and King Rollo Entertainment.

Finance Manager - Clare Swain

Clare has over 16 years’ experience in a number of finance roles across media and marketing sectors, including Visit London and Thomson Intermedia and a BA Hons in Business with Accounting and Finance from Greenwich University. Clare oversees the day to day finance functions of the company as well as managing budgets and forecasting.

Marketing & Approvals Executive - Alexandra Sanson

Alex coordinates the merchandising product approvals process and assists with marketing, both at retail and online for all our brands. After graduating from Royal Holloway University with a BA Hons in English Literature, Alex quickly moved into marketing. Starting out in finance, but looking for a more creative and engaging environment, Magic Light introduced her to the world of licensing.

Office Coordinator - Sarah Roberts

Sarah coordinates the running of the office and provides project support. Before joining Magic Light, she was a producer at creative studios The Pavement, part of the Goldcrest group. A languages graduate from Bristol University, Sarah has previously worked at Celluloid Dreams and children’s radio station Fun Kids.
