Magic Light Pictures makes imaginative entertainment for audiences, families and children worldwide.

We create high quality films and products and have built the wonderful Gruffalo brand over many years. We believe that being fully involved, creatively and commercially, in both films and products allows us to be at our best. We’ve enjoyed three Oscar nominations and many awards but we’re happiest when our products delight their audiences.

We love strong stories, witty invention and evergreen characters, balancing commercial imperatives with creativity to make films and products we can be proud of. Our film-making includes feature films such as animation Chico & Rita, comedy thriller Wild Target and natural history documentary One Life.

We like being involved in all the ways our films and products reach audiences, so we directly manage production, licensing, global distribution and marketing. We’ve sold our Oscar and BAFTA-nominated half-hour animated films, The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child, to over 80 broadcasters worldwide. We run an international merchandising programme with over 40 licensees and 250 products. In 2015, we launched Stick Man – based on the best-selling book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler – with a half-hour animation premiering Christmas Day on BBC One to an audience of 9.27m and a growing range of merchandise. Revolting Rhymes, two half-hour animated specials based on the book written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake, garnered a combined audience of 11 million viewers on its 2016 BBC One Christmas premiere.
