Located in central London, Magic Light Pictures is run by producers Martin Pope and Michael Rose with associate Daryl Shute.
The company develops and produces talent driven stories for a worldwide, commercial audience. Drawing on the respective experience of Pope and Rose, the company is uniquely positioned to work across both live action and animation.
Currently in production is WILD TARGET, a comedy starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint, Eileen Atkins, Martin Freeman, Gregor Fisher and Rupert Everett, directed by Jonathan Lynn; GLORIOUS 39, written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff, starring Romola Garai, Bill Nighy, Julie Christie and Christopher Lee; and CHICO & RITA, an animated love story set to Cuban jazz music from Academy Award winner Fernando Trueba and star designer Javier Mariscal. Projects in development include MRS GONZALEZ a romantic comedy from writer Lucinda Coxon (The Heart of Me, Wild Target); and KING CARBONEL, a live action/CGI family film written by Hamish McColl (Mr Bean's Holiday).
In 2008 Martin produced the award winning young director Paul Andrew Williams' film THE COTTAGE, starring Andy Serkis, Reece Shearsmith and Jennifer Ellison. This vibrant comedy horror was released by Pathe in the UK and sold to Sony for the world. Martin's previous feature TOUCH OF PINK (starring Jimi Mistry and Kyle Maclachlan) premiered to acclaim at Sundance where it was bought for worldwide distribution by Sony Classics. Previous productions include award winning features such as THE HEART OF ME (starring Paul Bettany, Helena Bonham Carter and Olivia Williams) and LAWLESS HEART (starring Bill Nighy). Other productions include tv movie TURN OF THE SCREW (starring Colin Firth and Jodhi May); as well as producing roles on films for the BBC including director John Madden's MEAT and John Schlesinger's BAFTA award winning film of Alan Bennett's A QUESTION OF ATTRIBUTION.
Prior to forming Magic Light, Michael Rose headed up the feature film division of UK animation studio Aardman. He was Executive Producer of hit animated picture CHICKEN RUN, and the Oscar and BAFTA winning WALLACE & GROMIT: CURSE OF THE WERERABBIT, two of the most successful British films ever. He was joint producer of Nick Park's Oscar winning Wallace and Gromit film, A CLOSE SHAVE, and has produced two other Oscar nominated short films, and won two BAFTAS. For television, his producing credits include the cult animated series REX THE RUNT and ANGRY KID.
Before joining Magic Light Pictures in 2006 Daryl was in front of the camera, graduating with honors from The Welsh College of Music and Drama, touring widely both the UK and Australia before taking a central starring role in the BBC's longest running soap. Deciding to shift focus behind the camera he joined Forward Films developing their slate with writers Andrew Bovell and Rowan Joffe along with directors David Yates and John Crowley. Following a spell with the UK Film Council's Development Fund he's now an associate producer for Magic Light Pictures.
